After getting back from Houghton we settled into Green Bay, to get an email that our flights back to Pittsburgh. We were stuck in Green Bay for a bit, the emails continued to come and the delays became further in the future. Given the delay and extreme cold we decided to stop by Joel's camp to make sure the heat was still on - not worth the risk of frozen pipes!  It was so neat to see all of the progress that was happening at Buck's camp. My dad had been working hard on completing some of the remaining work. We filled our coffee cups, my oldest tested all of the light switches, and soon after we were back on the road to Green Bay.

We settled into my parents condo to brave the polar vortex temperatures. Our first day had a high of -20, without windchill - it was absurd! I was scared to take the kids outside out of concern for instant frostbite. Instead, my mom and I went to Walmart to buy some food and swimsuits (yes, you heard me right - swim suits) for the boys so they could enjoy the pool!

The extra delay and time in Green Bay allowed us to see Paul's parents, take the kids swimming and catch up with Aunt Lyssa! Schools were canceled which helped to free up Lyssa's schedule! We hung out around the condo, and later braved the cold temps to go snow tubing by Lambeau field. It was a blast! We got in our stair work out for the day, and came flying down the snow hill. Initially I was a bit bummed they didn't let kids under 4yrs old on the hill, but after trying it myself, I understood why! Sophia lost her hat on the way down due to high speed tubing- ha!

Later during the polar vortex delay we also caught up with my cousin and his boys who are the same age as ours. They had a blast running around the house. Initially, it was silence and feeling each other out - and within 20 minutes it was pure toddler joy and chaos! They were destroying the toy room and covered in sweat! hah!

I love flying - it's easier for us in so many ways. However, we do experience our fair share of travel delays. When they are out of your control, it's just best to go with the flow, and make the best of the situation. For us that meant Walmart swimsuits, morning walks around the neighborhood, play dates, and meeting up with friends! The 2019 Polar Vortex was the real deal, but we survived and after a 4-day delay, we were home with Paul and grateful we didn't experience a total pipe freeze! Thankful for warm blankets, the ability to pay for heat, and extra time to spend with family!
