Bringing our little man home was the most natural and terrifying moment. We walked into a house under construction, right as we texted out family that we were on our way, my dad has successfully cut a hole in the ceiling and the ceiling came crashing down in a pile of dust and debri. Kathy and Deb immediately sprung into action to clean and vaccum, and they did a pretty good job disguising the choas. They felt terrible because my only request was that I have a clean house and then I could forget all the business that goes along with having a full house.  On the other hand, the installation of our whole house fan has been totally worth all the dust and distruption! That thing is amazing for a city home! Thanks Curty!

The first order of business was to try to let Dale have a sniff at his new brother.  That lasted about 2 seconds before we had to put the little, jealous terrier in his kennel - referred to as his "slammer".  Dale is a bit of a high energy dog, so we knew it wasn't going to be instant love or trust.  We approached the puppy introduction with a high level of skepticism and assumed he would get the hang of it after a while.

Despite Dale's barking, I was so happy to be home. I was exhausted and thrilled to be able to walk myself to the bathroom without calling a nurse. Also, a shower - I was able to take a shower and it made the world of a difference.

Now the biggest challenge was learning how to feed my little man. This mom had no idea what she was doing and Drew was early and sleepy.  He didn't eat very well and lost a decent amount of weight in the first few days.  So began the pumping, trying to feed and frustrations of breastfeeding. Whew, it is really all about survival in the beginning.  They say if you can make it to a month, you're golden. It was safe to assume the marsh stubbornness wasn't going to allow me to give up. Luckily I was surrounded with supportive family and friends. We made it and now, as my dad likes to say, "Drew is constantly drunk off the boob juice".

When we first brought him home, he was so tiny and squishy. That big head was all over the place.  We gave him a bath and waited for his first few poops. Our lives were changing right before our eyes.  I was awake most of the night feeding my little man.  Those were some precious days I will never forget.  I hope you enjoy some of MANY pictures we took during Drew's first few days home with family.
