In January, we came back to visitors from Germany! Lovis' mom and sister were in town exploring Pittsburgh and getting the opportunity to meet her host family - and understand all of our crazy quirks! They went to some local museums and braved the terrible cold. We also went up to the light up of Phipps, which was freezing!! Drew was a trooper and braved the cold.

In January I was also getting settled back into the swing of clinical clerkships. I started back on Dermatology. We had a week of specialty clinics, then a week of surgical clinics and procedures and finally a week of outpatient general dermatology. Specialty clinics included pediatric clinics, hair and nail clinic, pigmented lesions, and urgent clinics. It was a nice variety of cases, but the only downfall was that I worked with a new attending everyday, sometimes two new clinical attendings. I am always pretty shy in the beginning while I try to understand the team, which makes it difficult to jump from one clinic to the next. Regardless, it was a good time and I was enjoyed meeting new people and reconnecting with others!!

I also really enjoyed my procedures week. There is definitely more to dermatology than total body skin exams - the procedure piece is something that I wasn't fully anticipating when I started to explore the field. It is interesting to see their approach to procedures, and Mohs was something I had the opportunity to observe for the first time. The days went by quickly, and the weeks went by even faster!  Soon, I was taking my final exam, and trying to learn as much derm as possible!  The clerkship was a wonderful experience, and I am looking forward to more opportunities in this field!

If you are a medical student, and you have the opportunity to rotate in Dermatology, I would highly recommend it! It's very practical and eye opening!
